Africa Rocks! Our most successful bonspiel yet!

Our 9th annual Africa Rocks! bonspiel was held Oct. 28 at the Rideau Curling Club, where 16 teams hit the ice for some good Canadian fun.
It was a tie! Awesomeness on Ice (who have joined Africa Rocks! since the beginning) and Troll Island (made up of long-time volunteers – Catherine and Dick Lane and Pauline and David Hawkes – all won a bottle of the very popular Ladybug wine, courtesy of Malivoire Wine.
Since 2008 we have been holding our annual ‘funspiel’ and once again Farm Radio International staff, friends, and supporters hit the ice to help farmers at the ninth Africa Rocks! curling fundraiser. We would like to thank all who helped make it a great event by attending or contributing to it. We are happy to announce that this year was our most successful to date, raising a record $8,000 to help serve farmers over the airwaves!
Volunteer Joan Thompson with Erin Moores and Kalyn Lord. They represented Goldblatt Partners, who sponsored a curling team and donated Sens tickets for the silent auction.
The event started off with a cup of coffee from Bridgehead and then sixteen teams faced off for a day of fun competition. Beginner curlers were guided and supported by veteran curlers while others watched from the warmth of the Rideau Curling Club lounge. The very popular silent auction included a pair of bronze passes to the Ottawa International Jazz Festival, a gift certificate to Les Fougères Restaurant, and so much more. Thanks to Camino and The Ottawa Farmer’s Market, everyone left with gift cards and chocolate!
We hope to see you all back next year!
This event would not be a success without the support our incredible sponsors! A big thank you goes out to:
