Discover Tanzania next February with Farm Radio International!

In February 2017, our first learning tour brought 14 of our supporters to Tanzania to see our work first-hand. And the feedback was overwhelming. So we’re going back, and you can be one of the participants.
On this trip, you will explore a beautiful country through the eyes of Farm Radio International, with executive director Kevin Perkins as your guide. In 2013, Kevin spent a year living and working in Arusha, and he loves to share the highlights of Tanzania.
A limited number of spots are still available to what is sure to be an amazing trip. Here’s what we have planned:
Itinerary
Feb. 14: Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport
You will be met at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to your hotel in Arusha.
Feb. 15: Rest & briefing
You will have the morning to relax in Arusha after the long flight over. In the afternoon, an arrival briefing will be held, followed by a special welcome dinner in the evening.
Feb. 16: FRI at work
Visit our African headquarters in Arusha, where The Hangar is located. The Hangar is our radio and ICT innovation lab. After lunch, visit a local radio station.
Feb. 17-18: Arusha – Kikwe – Mulala – Moshi
Travel to Mulala to visit Mama Anna’s farm, where you will go on a guided walking tour and help roast and grind fresh coffee. On the way, visit the welcoming farmers in the village of Kikwe. The next day, visit a local radio station in Moshi and visit the communities they serve. We will also stop in at the World Vegetable Centre to learn about their efforts to promote indigenous vegetable cultivation.
Feb. 19-20: Safari
Our two-day safari will include game viewing drives in Lake Manyara National Park and Ngorongoro Conservation Area. We will stay in a comfortable, safe, and interesting accommodation.
Feb. 21-24: Arusha – Dar es Salaam – Morogoro – Mikumi National Park
Fly to Dar es Salaam and spend the night at a seaside hotel. Visit the Canadian Embassy to hear about Canada’s development cooperation program in Tanzania and visit the national farmers’ organization MVIWATA. Enjoy a guided tour of the city and a meal at the famed Badminton Institute, known for its delicious Indian cuisine. Then travel to Morogoro, where we will see the impact of a project that supports small-scale soybean farming. Afterwards, we will travel to Mikumi National Park, passing sisal plantations and the beautiful Uluguru Mountains that soar above the plains and town of Morogoro. Enjoy a game viewing drive in Mikumi National Park, Tanzania’s fourth-largest national park.
Feb 25-March 1: Zanzibar
Travel to the ancient Swahili coastal city of Stone Town, via the ferry from Dar es Salaam. Enjoy an early-evening stroll along the coast before enjoying a local seafood feast and (if we’re lucky) a live performance of Taarab music. Start the next day with Zanzibar’s famous spiced coffee before a guided walking tour through the narrow, winding streets to the old slave market and the former palace of the Sultan of Oman. Then, set sail for one of Zanzibar’s tranquil and picturesque seaside lodges, where you will stay for three nights. Snorkel or scuba dive, swim with dolphins, go on a spice tour, or pursue some of the other ecotourism activities available to you. You will have two full days at leisure before flying home on March 1.
