Looking forward to 2014: The International Year of Family Farming

The United Nations has declared 2014 as the International Year of Family Farming to raise awareness about the importance of family and small-scale farming in eradicating hunger and poverty, providing food security and nutrition, improving livelihoods, managing natural resources, protecting the environment and achieving sustainable development, particularly in rural areas. At Farm Radio International, we know how important family and small-scale farming is to communities across Africa. How fitting it is then that 2014 also marks the 35th anniversary of our very first script package, which was sent out on May 1st, 1979.

We are celebrating the International Year of Family Farming and this important milestone in our history by hosting an event that pays homage to African food and farmers. If you live in the National Capital Region, or plan to be in the area on May 1st, you are invited to join us as two chefs compete to combine mystery ingredients (including traditionally African crops) into delicious dishes for you to enjoy.
