Scoping study: Delivering climate services at large scale for farmers and pastoralists in Tanzania and Malawi through rural radio

This audience research, conducted in October 2014, shows that for both Malawi and Tanzania, radio and mobile phones are in common use, and are rated by farmers and pastoralists to have great potential as effective and trusted channels where they can access various climate information services.

The data shows farmers are currently rarely receiving or using weather forecasts in a systematic manner. Rainfall data and forecasting was mentioned as a particular need. In general, farmers would trust climate information received via their preferred radio stations to the extent that they would use it in decision-making on their farms.
